Tango is a strong passionate dance with sharp dramatic accents and controlled movements.  The typical Hollywood rendition includes holding a rose in your mouth, pressing your cheek to your partner's cheek as you stalk across the floor.

Social

Very few dances will include tango music. Unless it's a ballroom studio or event you may need to request a specific song to dance the tango. There are groups who focus on Argentine Tango, and clubs in some larger cities created specifically for the Argentine style.  

Music

Tango music can be 4/4 or 2/4. It has a heavy repetitive beat and typically includes violins.
