A smooth walking dance. Like taking a stroll around the dance floor with a few quick steps and jaunty patterns for added character. If you imagine Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers gliding across the floor, most of the time it was a foxtrot based routine.
Social
If you are out listening to a big band, or visit a traditional ballroom you will have a lot of opportunities to dance the foxtrot. The 4/4 music is more common than a waltz, and the dance is more flexible to weave in and out of other dancers as you circle the floor.
Music
4/4 time with a characteristic "boom-tick" sound. Think Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet orHarry Connick Jr.
